Mockery and Derision: God is depicted as laughing and having derision towards the kings and rulers of the earth who conspire against Him and His Anointed (verses 2-4).
Anger: God expresses wrath and threatens to vex the conspirators in His sore displeasure (verse 5).
Confidence and Assurance: The tone shifts to a more confident and assuring note as God declares the establishment of His King upon His holy hill of Zion (verses 6-7).
Warning: The psalm ends with a warning to the kings and judges of the earth to serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling (verses 10-11). It advises them to kiss the Son, lest He be angry and they perish from the way when His wrath is kindled but a little.
